STATE OF THE ART shearing techniques and facilities were on display Tuesday at the San Angelo mall, courtesy of sheep industry supporters who hoped to give the general public a little insight into their way of life. Shearing demonstrations outdoors complemented an indoor display of everything from grease wool through tops to finished fabrics. Spokesmen were also on hand to tout the industry's contributions to the West Texas economy.

Fat, Feeder Lambs Steady, Ewes Higher
Very little price change occurred this week on feeder lambs, other than a couple of Texas auctions that moved up a couple of dollars. Fat lambs were also mostly steady. Slaughter ewes found prices sharply higher in Texas and moderately higher in the Midwest.

Flurry Of Midweek Activity Moves Cattle At Steady Rate
A flurry of midweek trading moved a slew of Plains fed cattle at steady prices, the second week in a row that trades were made in a timely manner.

Goldthwaite Feeder Lambs Trade Higher
Feeder lambs sold $2-4 higher, slaughter lambs $2-4 higher, slaughter ewes and bucks steady; stocker Spanish goats steady, slaughter kids steady to $3 higher, muttons and billies steady except weights under 90 pounds $3-5 higher. Receipts totaled 3300 head.

Abilene Feeder Cattle Prices Little Softer
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower, the decline on weights under 600 pounds, slaughter cows $1-3 higher, bulls steady, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 1550 head.

Cuero Cattle Prices Said Steady, Strong
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to strong, slaughter cows lower. Receipts totaled 2278 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Steers, Heifers Strong
Feeder steers and heifers sold strong, slaughter cows and bulls about steady. Receipts totaled 1188 head.

Colorado City Feeder Steers, Heifers Higher
Feeder steers sold steady to $1 higher, heifers $1-4 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 lower, bulls $1 lower, bred stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 855 head.

Kansas Direct Feeder Steers, Heifers Weak
Feeder steers sold weak to $2 lower in Kansas direct trade last week, heifers steady to weak. The weather was cool with little moisture. Wheat is beginning to come out of dormancy and needs sunshine. Sales were confirmed on 4342 head.

Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 924 head.

U.S. Meat Production 1.1% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 861.2 million pounds, 1.1 percent less than a week earlier and .5 percent more than a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was up .6 percent at 6.38 billion pounds.

Producer's Video Sale Offers 2400 Cattle
Producers Video Auction offered 2400 cattle at their regularly scheduled sale. Delivery is mostly current through May.

Junction Feeder Lambs, Stock Angoras Steady
Feeder lambs sold near steady, slaughter ewes and bucks $3 higher; stock Angora nannies steady, slaughter Angoras steady to $3 higher; stock Spanish nannies steady, slaughter kids mostly $2-6 lower, fat nannies and billies steady, muttons $5 lower. Receipts totaled 3200 head.

January Cold Storage 4% Above A Year Ago
Total U.S. red meat supplies in freezers on January 31, at 835.7 million pounds, were four percent above a year ago and up two percent from December 1998.

Graham Feeder Cattle Sell In Mixed Trends
Feeder steers sold mostly steady to $2 higher with weights over 800 pounds $1 lower, heifers steady to $1 lower, fleshy off $2, slaughter cows $1 lower, bulls steady, bred stock cows and pairs $10-20 lower. Receipts totaled 2120 head.

January Red Meat Output Down Slightly
Commercial red meat production for the United States totaled 3.83 billion pounds in January, down slightly from the 3.84 billion pounds produced in January 1998.

Llano Heavy Feeder Cattle Move Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower, the decline on weights over 500 pounds, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 477 head.

Milano Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows steady to $1 lower, bulls steady to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 1036 head.
