Whitfield Jumps To Early Lead
In PRCA World All-Around Race

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —— Fred Whitfield of Hockley earned enough cash at the recent Southwestern International Livestock Show and Rodeo in El Paso to jump to the lead in the world all-around rodeo standings.

The three-time world calf roping champ earned $2118 for placing third in the calf roping. More important, he grabbed $1816 in team roping, splitting first and second place in the second round with rookie partner Arles Pearce of Hempsted, Texas. The round win was more than enough to give Whitfield the required $3000 in two or more events to qualify for the all-around race. He now leads the field of timed-event contestants in the all-around standings with $22,860, more than $13,500 ahead of second-place Chad Hagan of Leesville, La.
