Theriot Moves Into All-Around
Second Slot In Two-State Sweep

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Versatility is the key to success for timed-event cowboy Herbert Theriot.

Theriot, the 1994 world champion calf roper, pocketed a whopping $17,324 — the largest check won by any professional rodeo cowboy last week — for placing in the calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping events at three rodeos over the weekend.

Theriot, of Poplarville, Miss., claimed his largest single-rodeo check of the weekend, $10,456, at the $416,587 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

A seven-time NFR calf roping qualifier, Theriot placed in all three rounds of the calf roping event, including the top 12 final round, for a third place average finish and $7189. He claimed another $3267 for a third-place finish in the second round of the steer wrestling event.

In Florida he won $6869 in the calf roping and team roping events. The recent winnings pushed Theriot into second place in the Crown Royal world all-around race.

Fred Whitfield leads the all-around race with $35,920. Whitfield cashed in on $13,060, winning checks in San Antonio and Kissimmee, Fla. Chad Hagan, Leesville, La., is third in the all-around event with $16,632. He is followed by Joe Beaver, Huntsville, Texas, with $11,130 and Cash Myers, Athens, Texas, $9629.
