Meat Passed For Entry
Last Week 14,767 Tons

WASHINGTON —(USDA)— The total weight of imported meat inspected for entry into the United States last week reached 14,767 metric tons, or 32.5 million pounds. An additional 95 metric tons of chicken were inspected.

Beef imported last week totaled 11,252 metric tons, including 10,158 fresh and 1104 processed. Pork imported totaled 2354 metric tons, including 1122 fresh and 1232 processed. Veal imported was 107 metric tons and lamb and mutton 1044 metric tons.

Imported meat last week totaled 32.5 million pounds or the equivalent of 3.7 percent of the U.S. domestic production of 877.6 million pounds. Beef imports at 24.8 million pounds were the equivalent of five percent of domestic production for last week, veal was 235,400 pounds or 5.7 percent, pork 5.2 million pounds or 1.4 percent, and lamb and mutton 2.3 million pounds or 42.6 percent of domestic production.
