Bob Lindsey of Borger, Texas, sold off his ranch near
Hereford, 270 mixed calves for delivery this week at
$32.50 for the heifers, weighing 464, and $34.50 for the
steers, weighing 520 pounds, to Lowell Winsor of Texline.

Jake Carthel of Amarillo bought 74 steer yearlings
weighing about 700 pounds for delivery this week off cake
and grass at $27 from Jimmy Shelton of McLean, Texas.

Bud Layton of Folsom, N.M., sold 66 cows with 16
calves on them at $280 per cow and delivered them
recently to an Oklahoma buyer; the cows were threes to
sevens.

heifer yearlings expected to weigh around 700 pounds for
September delivery to an Amarillo buyer at $25 cwt.

yearlings expected to weigh near 475 pounds for March 25
delivery off cake and grass near Guthrie, Texas, at $31
from Dalby Fleming of Childress.

Bill Wallace, Amarillo, bought 237 good and choice fed
steers weighing 1125 pounds at $20 from the Gooch
feedlots at Dalhart for shipment to Supreme Beef Co.,
Lubbock.

A broad demand was reported for cattle to go into
feedlots as well as for light stockers to go on summer
grass, but buyers and sellers were $1 to $3 apart on so
many deals that trading was limited.

Harry Norman, Gardner, Colo., bought 495 heifers to
weigh 475 pounds at $23.50 in the Pampa area. They were
described as choice Herefords, all one family of cattle.

Shelton & Son, Clarendon, bought 200 Hereford and
black baldface heifers and steers weighing 500 and 550
pounds, respectively, at $22 and $24 from Patterson &
Jones, Benjamin. They also bought 100 steers described as
choice Herefords weighing 750 pounds at $21 from Virgil
Johnson, Crowell.

T.B. Saunders, Ft. Worth and Weatherford, in
association with his son Tom B. Sanders IV and son-in-law
Jim Calhoun, sold 2075 reputation Twin V and Spur brand
Hereford steer yearlings for July 12 delivery at $30.25;
the steers, expected to weigh 650-700 pounds at delivery,
were sold to a northern feeder through Wilderspin Cattle
Co.

Ernest Langenegger & Sons, Hagerman, N.M.,
"hedged" 400 heifers by contracting them for
mid-August delivery to a California packer at $27.50.
Some arrived at the feed pens the day they were
contracted, the others the week before.

Something new in the mohair trade was the manner in
which mohair was displayed for sealed bid sales in Uvalde
and Rocksprings. All the kid, young goat and finer adult
was on the floor, 20 percent actually laid out for
inspection and the rest available. Ten percent of the
coarser adult was laid out. Several buyers lauded this
feature but were less keen on the sealed bid system.

Colorado feedyard 250 Hereford and mixed breed steers
weighing about 575 pounds at $43.

weighing 436 pounds at $72. He sold to a local buyer 116
No. 1 and better steers weighing 550 at $67.25.

In Texas, some adult mohair has been sold for $1.40, a
small amount of kid $3.75-4. In general, the market
remains very quiet. Winter storms have caused late
shearing and death losses.

Brangus bred heifers for $750 per head.

The USDA's bi-weekly report on cattle imports from
Mexico shows 55,093 feeder steers entering during the
period Feb. 26-March 11. Since Jan. 1, imports have
totaled 306,333 head.

over 50,000, the going price $75 on live cattle and
$120.50 on a few carcass deals. Nebraska reported the
same price, and Midwest direct areas were getting $74-75
on a strengthening run.
