Up Three Percent
WASHINGTON (USDA) Total red meat supplies
in freezers February 28, 1999 were up five percent from a
year ago and three percent above January at 866.8 million
pounds.
Frozen beef stocks were down 10 percent from a year
ago and unchanged from January at 301.3 million pounds.
Boneless meats were down nine percent from last year at
266.5 million pounds, cuts down 20 percent at 34.8
million pounds.
Veal stocks were down 36 percent from last year and
down seven percent from January at 4.2 million pounds.
Frozen pork stocks were up 17 percent from last year
and five percent above last month at 543.3 million
pounds. Hams were up 18 percent from a year ago at 90.2
million pounds, bellies up 67 percent at 92.5 million
pounds, and ribs up 25 percent at 79.5 million pounds.
Lamb and mutton stocks were down 21 percent from a
year ago and up 16 percent from last month at 12.1
million pounds.
Total frozen poultry supplies were up two percent from
last month, but down six percent from last year's level.
Total stocks of chicken were up one percent from last
month and nine percent above February 1998. Total pounds
of turkey
in freezers increased three percent from last month,
but were 27 percent below last year.
