Choice gleanings
from 45-plus years of Unregistered Bull
Around a hotel lobby it's unnecessary,
fortunately, to place yourself under oath
whenever you tell a story, even if you tell it
for the truth. Many a reliable man lets his
veracity slip out of gear when he takes the
spotlight in these conversational bull rings. |

Pokin' Fun
A Kentucky association that uses me
as a speaker on occasions meets annually in
Louisville where a bunch of "live
wires" mix business with pleasure. Mostly
monkey business, which accounts for the pleasure.
For instance, my friend Louis Strange is a great
storyteller and can be encouraged to spring into
a tale when prompted by a key word ... like
"Hello." |

Shortgrass Country
Buried in boxes by my desk are
mementos from 15 years of travel. Newspapers
written in the pidgin English of New Guinea and
photographs of huge stones in England lie among
menus from French restaurants and programs from
Dallas concerts. |

On The Edge Of
Common Sense

tequila rose from their side of the room. They
looked like boneless chickens, plucked and
feelin' none too good, All the victims of the
night before's farewell to bachelorhood. |

As
I See It ...
I often wonder about the first
women of Texas. Their voices are mute in history
and literature. |
