Jack Drake of San Angelo this week bought three loads
of 85-pound shorn feeder lambs at Mid-West Feed Yards at
$16.50 cwt.

Leon Land & Cattle Company of Fort Stockton
Wednesday marketed 366 crossbred spring lambs on the Fort
Worth market at $28.50.

Wayland Smith of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, has contracted
1000 mixed calves for fall delivery to Tom Blanton, also
of Pawhuska, at $18 and $20 on heifers and steers,
respectively.

Gerald Farr of Fort Sumner and Buck Harvey of Encino,
New Mexico, are reported to have sold around 300 choice
quality short-age stocker yearlings this week at $22.50
for the heifers and $24.50 for the steers for delivery
this week. The heifers and steers weighed 367 and 409,
respectively.

Dick Moseley of Rochelle this week sold 750 oldcrop
clipped lambs weighing 96 pounds at $22.75 through Texas
Livestock Marketing Association.

Lloyd Kenyon of Clovis sold, for LeBus Bros., Wichita
Falls, Texas, 750 steer yearlings expected to weigh
750-850 pounds at $27.75 for Aug. 10 to Sept. 15 delivery
to Illinois buyers. These cattle will be summered on
LeBus Bros. ranch near Eagle Nest, N.M., and are to be
delivered at the ranch with three percent shrink.

Cecil Dellinger of Clayton, N.M. bought 400 heifer and
steer yearlings from Raymond Weatherford of Dumas, Texas,
for Aug. 1 delivery at $26.50 for the heifers, expected
to weigh about 700 pounds, and $210 per head for the
steers, expected to weigh near 800 pounds.

Ike Wiggins of Wagon Mound, N.M., sold 90 heifer
yearlings averaging 470 pounds at $33, delivered last
week to a local buyer; also 110 heifer yearlings weighing
560 at $32, delivered last week of Colorado buyers.

Gordon Stiles of Wheeler, Texas, is reported to have
sold 200 mixed calves for fall delivery to a Nebraska
buyer at $33.50 and $35.50 for heifers and steers,
respectively.

Guy McBurnett, Dalhart, bought 75 heifer yearlings at
$28 and 250 steer yearlings at $30 for May 20 delivery in
the Temple, Texas area; these are expected to weigh about
550 pounds.

Considerable inquiry and some trading was reported on
yearlings in the Globe, Ariz., area. A Montana operator
bought 800 steers weighing 400-475 pounds at $22.50 to
$23 depending on weight and condition. Another buyer paid
$22 for 300 head in the same weight range.

choice Hereford heifer calves at $85 per head; he and
R.H. Nicks, Springer, bought 35 steer calves weighing
425-450 in the Raton area at $20.

Fort Worth, bought and received 208 choice Okie steers
weighing 599 pounds at $17.50.

cattle industry left on a two-week visit to Great
Britain, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands to try
to increase those countries' purchases of American beef.
They included Jay Taylor, Amarillo; Kenneth Anderson,
Emporia, Kan.; John Guthrie, Porterville, Calif.; C.W.
"Bill" McMillan, Denver, executive secretary of
the American National Cattlemen's Assn.; Aled B. Davis,
Chicago, vice president of the American Meat Institute;
and Don Magdanz, Omaha, secretary of the National
Livestock Feeders Assn.

steers weighing 1250 pounds grading 80 percent choice at
$33 out of their lots at Hart and Plainview; and 400
steers weighing 1200 grading 85 percent choice at $33.35.

"Typewriter Cowboy" was the title given
Elmer Kelton, associate editor of West Texas Livestock
Weekly, in a recent feature article in the Dallas
News. He has written a Western novel every year for
17 years as a sideline to his full time newspaper work.
Two weeks ago he received the Western Heritage "Best
Novel" Award at the National Cowboy Hall of fame for
his latest book, "The Time It Never Rained."
