No Herefords were entered in the show.

Feeder Steers, Heifers Higher
In Angelo Special Sale Monday

SAN ANGELO — Steer and heifer prices were $1-2 higher here Monday in the season's second special feeder calf sale at Producers Livestock Auction.

Trading and demand were good, the quality average to attractive. Calves made up 75 percent of light receipts totaling 1350 head compared to 1300 at the previous special sale last month and 2926 for the same day last year.

USDA reported prices this way:

Feeder steers: medium and large No. 1 200-300 pounds few $97-105, 300-400 pounds few $98-100, 400-500 pounds $83-95, 500-600 pounds $77-88, few $91-92, 600-700 pounds $74-86, few $88-92, 700-800 pounds $67-75.25; medium and large 1-2 300-400 pounds $80-86, 400-500 pounds $73-81, 500-600 pounds $70-76, 600-700 pounds $74-86, few $88-92, 700-800 pounds $67-75.25.

Feeder heifers: medium and large No. 1 400-500 pounds $74-83, set $86.50, 500-600 pounds $71-82, 600-700 pounds $68.50-74.50, 700-800 pounds $64-71; medium and large 1-2 300-400 pounds few $75-81, 400-500 pounds $66.50-73, 500-700 pounds $63.50-69.

Show winners included:

Angus: champion steers, 12 head consigned by Wendland Ranch, San Angelo, and averaging 593 pounds at $88 cwt. or $521.84 per head; reserve steers, 10 from R.T. Foster, Sterling City, 601 pounds $92 or $552.92; champion heifers, 10 from Wendland Ranch, 541 pounds $79.50 or $430.10; reserve heifers, 14 from James Barr, Coahoma, 541 pounds $82 or $443.82.

Crossbreds: champion steers, 29 from Mike Priddy, Talpa, 562 pounds $92 or $517.04; reserve steers, 10 from Jones Cattle Co., Brady, 739 pounds $75.25 or $556.10; champion heifers, 10 from Mike Priddy, 619 pounds $71 or $439.49; reserve heifers, 12 from Fagan Ranch, Del Rio, 600 pounds $71.50 or $429.

No Herefords were entered in the show.
