Lambs Lower, Ewes Higher
Feeder lambs on Texas markets found a
lower trend this week when trading resumed after
the Fourth of July holiday. Some early-week
markets were on recess. Midwest markets were
generally steady, and slaughter lambs sold a
couple of dollars lower almost everywhere.
Slaughter ewes, on the other hand, were higher as
demand from Mexico picked up.
Plains Fed Cattle Deadlocked, Feeder
Market Hit By Holiday
Despite a smaller showlist yet again,
Plains fed cattle trading was deadlocked in a
bearish atmosphere at midweek, and the recent

$2 lower around the country last week, most areas
reporting only token numbers.

Mostly Wednesday
Slaughter steers and heifers sold mostly
$2 lower last week in Texas Panhandle and Western
Oklahoma feedlot trading. The bulk of the trade
occurred on Wednesday with moderate movement on
Thursday.
Angelo Feeder Lambs Weak, Killer Ewes Up
Feeder lambs sold weak to $2 lower
compared to two weeks ago, slaughter lambs poorly
tested, slaughter ewes fully $3-6 higher.
Receipts totaled 13,869 head, about 45 percent
slaughter ewes, 15 percent feeder lambs and 40
percent goats.
San Saba, Brownwood, Mason Feeders Mixed
Lightweight feeder steers and heifers sold
steady to strong last week in Mason, Brownwood
and San Saba, heavyweights $2-3 lower with some
steers off $5, slaughter cows $1-2.50 higher,
bulls $2-3 higher, stock cows and pairs $25
higher. Receipts at the three sales totaled 1640
head.
Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices
Decline
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-3 lower,
slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher. Receipts
totaled 818 head.
Most Abilene Cattle Prices Termed Higher
Feeder steers sold steady to $1 higher,
heifers $1-2 higher, slaughter cows mostly
steady, bulls $2-3 higher, stock cows $10-20
higher, pairs fully steady. Receipts totaled 988
head.
Most Milano Cattle Prices Hold Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady,
slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled
758 head.
Cutting Horse Assn. Competition Begins
The National Cutting Horse Association
will begin its Summer Cutting Spectacular here
July 19, leading to final performances on Aug. 1.
Domestic Wool Slow, Aussie Wools Mixed
Wool trading was slow last week, nearly at
a standstill under light demand. A weak undertone
was noted on reported sales, both grease and
clean basis. Mills will be observing annual
closures for several weeks starting in early
July.
