Feeder lamb prices were firm to a little
higher in most areas this week, fats generally
under pressure all week. The carlot dressed trade
held steady last week, distributive markets
moving higher to reflect recent carcass advances.
Plains Fed Cattle Picture A Too-Familiar

Plains fed cattle trading has become a
broken record, for those old enough to remember
what that is. For the umpteenth session, feeders
and packers held each other at arms' length
through midweek, would-be buyers bidding a
desultory $63 and would-be sellers asking a
modest premium at $66.

Prices for feeder cattle and calves around
the country were unsettled last week. No clearcut
price trend emerged, though prices didn't vary
far either way from steady.
U.S. Meat Production .4% Below A Year
Ago
Total red meat production under federal
inspection last week was estimated at 880.6
million pounds, 3.5 percent more than a week ago
and .4 percent less than a year ago. Cumulative
meat production for the year to date was up 2.3
percent at 27.86 billion pounds.
Texas Fed Cattle Moved Late Last Week
With Little Strength
Slaughter steers and heifers sold steady
to 50 cents higher last week in Texas Panhandle
and Western Oklahoma feedlot trading. Trade was
moderate to very slow until late Thursday
morning, when most of the sales took place.

Contestants In Event Standings
The payout of the "Daddy of 'em
All," a.k.a. Cheyenne Frontier Days,
generally plays a big part in at least one world
championship every year. This year, Cheyenne
winnings pushed calf roper Cody Ohl, Orchard,
Texas, to third in the world all-around
standings, moved Jim Davis, Abilene, Texas, from
11th to third in the steer
roping standings, Cody Custer, Wickenburg, Ariz.,
from 33rd to 13th in the bull riding standings,
and Tommy Cook, Heber, Utah, from 10th to fourth in the steer
wrestling standings.
Angelo Feeder Lambs Higher, Cattle Lower
Feeder lambs sold $1-4 higher this week,
slaughter lambs poorly tested and slaughter ewes
weak to $3 lower. Two day receipts totaled 15,000
head, the supply around 60 percent slaughter
ewes, 10 percent feeder lambs and 30 percent
goats.

Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady,
slaughter cows $2 lower, bulls mostly steady,
stock cows strong, pairs steady. Receipts totaled
1431 head.
Most Graham Feeder Steers, Heifers Up
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to
$1 higher, except heifers under 450 pounds steady
to $1 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $1.50
lower, bred stock cows steady to $20 lower, cows
with calves $10-20 lower. Receipts totaled 1589
head.
Llano Feeder Steers Mixed, Heifers
Steady
Feeder steers sold steady to $5 higher
except weights over 700 pounds steady to $2
lower, heifers steady, slaughter cows and bulls
$3 lower. Receipts totaled 677 head.
Goldthwaite Feeder Lambs Trade Steady
Feeder lambs sold steady, slaughter ewes
and bucks $2-3 lower, stock Spanish nannies $3
lower, slaughter kids mostly steady, billies $3-4
higher, other slaughter goats $3-5 lower,
