Domestic Wool Quiet,
Aussies Open Lower

GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Wool trading was at a standstill at the producer level last week, most growers reluctant to accept current bids. Demand and seller interest was light.

In Territory trading, California sold a couple of clips totaling 40,000 pounds of 22.5-24.5 micron, staple, BOU, for 32 cents net the producer; Washington's Puget Sound pool moved 21,000 pounds of mixed white and blackface wools, 32-35 micron, staple, at 16 cents; In Texas a mixture of small lots of 20.5 to 22 micron, 12 month wools, staple length, ranged 30-45 cents grease.

Warehouse trading was slow on representative sales and a weak undertone was noted. A total of 260,000 pounds was reported, 21.5-22 micron, staple length bringing $1 clean, delivered to the processor, a few sales 90 cents to $1 f.o.b. the warehouse, 23-24 micron, staple, 80 cents, 24-26 micron, staple 70-75 cents.

The Australian wool market resumed trading following a three week recess. Compared to the last trading, the market indicator closed down three cents at 579A cents per kilo clean. A total of 92,990 bales were offered with clearance at 82 percent. Marino fleeces comprised the majority of offerings, followed by skirtings. The grease 21 micron contract for August closed at 561A , October 571, December 583, February 599 and April 615. The 19 micron clean wool contract for August closed at 1055A, October 1025, December 1022 and February 1025. The 23 micron clean wool contract for August closed at 420A, October 425, December 422 and February 427.

No New Zealand sales were conducted the past two weeks.

In Texas a total of 60,000 lbs. of mohair recently traded with young goat matchings at $3.90 and 34 micron fine adult matchings at $2.50.
