45 YEARS AGO

Wayne Cleveland of Canadian, Texas, is reported to have sold 278 steer yearlings at $19, immediate delivery off grass at Matfield Green, Kansas, to Allen Dawson of Amarillo, who bought them on order for Iowa feeders.

Bob McNally of Roswell is reported to have sold his lambs for October delivery to Louie Falconi, Roswell feedlot operator, at $16 cwt.

Buck Cone, Amarillo, sold 152 heifer yearlings weighing 625 pounds at $17 to Nebraska buyers, delivered August 24.

Doc Wimberley of Seminole, Texas, last week sold 200 mixed calves for November 1 to 15 delivery to a Mr. Willis of Dimmitt at $20 on the heifers and $21 on the steers; these are expected to weigh around 400 pounds on delivery.

A.S. MacArthur of Wagon Mound, New Mexico, is reported to have contracted the Buck York lambs at Las Vegas for October delivery at $17 cwt.

40 YEARS AGO

Lee Corn of Roswell has contracted 3000 mixed lambs, mostly whitefaces, to Jess Corn, also of Roswell, at $18.50 for October delivery; Jess Corn bought these as replacements for his pastures and feedlots. They're expected to be light, averaging around 65 pounds.

Sid Slaughter, San Angelo, over the past two or three weeks has bought between 10,000 and 12,000 mixed Rambouillet lambs, averaging about 70 pounds and costing from $18 to $19 cwt. in the Sanderson-Dryden area. The lambs are being sheared and put to pastures on Slaughter's San Francisco ranch in Brewster county.

W.C. Boykin and Shot Miller of Amarillo sold 450 Brahman crossbred heifer yearlings and 650 similar steer yearlings, all weighing 600 pounds, at $23.50 for Oct. 1-10 delivery near Vaughn, N.M. to an out-of-state buyer.

Gene Dellinger of Mt. Dora, N.M., sold about 200 heifer and steer calves expected to weigh near 425 pounds at $34 and $36 for Oct. 20 delivery to an Oklahoma buyer.

E.D. Sheets of Clayton, N.M., sold 120 cows and calves at $275 per pair to Forest Atchley of Mt. Dora, N.M.; these were sold for immediate delivery but are to stay on the seller's ranch until Oct. 1 at no extra cost.

Driggers Land & Cattle Co., Santa Rosa, N.M., sold 650 heifer and steer calves expected to weigh about 400 pounds at $21 and $23 for Sept. 15-Oct. 15 delivery to Illinois feeders.

D.M. and Bill Cogdell sold off their Silverton, Texas ranch 1400 heifer and steer calves weighing near 400 pounds at $21 and $23 to an Oklahoma buyer.

Charlie Lewis, Floydada, bought 500 heifer and steer calves weighing about 500 pounds at $19 and $21 from Burleson & Son, Matador.

L&B Cattle Co., Lubbock, already had 3000 cattle on feed in its first month of operation.

T-4 Cattle Co., Tucumcari, sold 750 yearling heifers weighing 550 pounds at $19.50 to Illinois buyers.

Robert Allen, Tulia, bought 450 Hereford, black baldface and Charolais cross heifer and steer calves to weigh 400 and 450 at $31.50 and $34.50 for Oct. 10 delivery from Johnny Burson and Burson Land & Cattle Co., Silverton.

Frank Allen, Clayton, N.M., bought 900 top Okie steers expected to average about 650 pounds at $30. These were west of Dalhart and were bought for Castro Feeders, Dimmitt.

Don Geeslin, Goldthwaite, sold 5000-6000 fed lambs weighing 90-92 at $29 f.o.b. his feedlots.

Parmer County Cattle co., Bovina, sold 389 steers weighing 1090-1125 pounds, 70-80 percent choice, at $30.

Panhandle Feed Yards, Turpin, Okla., sold 219 heifers weighing 975 pounds, 70 percent choice, at $28.50 to Swift & Co., Guymon, Okla.

Tommy Buckner, Dalhart, bought out of Florida 156 black baldface and Brangus steers weighing 314 pounds at $29.

Jerry Womble, Morse, Texas, bought out of South Texas 125 No. 1 Okie with a few Brahman cross steers weighing 330 pounds at $37.50 delivered.

Robert Snell, Clovis, sold to a local buyer 58 No. 1 Okie steers weighing 732 pounds payweight at $34, delivered.

Texas feedlots were selling fed lambs at around $65 to spots $66. Colorado feedlots also quoted fed springers at $65-66.

Potter Craig, Clovis, bought in the local area one load of No. 1 Okie feeder heifers weighing 550 pounds at $75.50.

Worthan, Hereford, bought in the Clovis area one load of No. 1 Okie steers weighing 440 pounds at $102, also 55 No. 1 to choice Okie steers weighing 419 at $97.32. both delivered to Hereford, plus one load of stock cows weighing 800 at $58 delivered to Sunray, Texas, and a load of stock cows weighing 800 at $56 delivered to Nazareth, Texas; in Kentucky one load of No. 1 Okie steers and bulls weighing 364 at $101.71 delivered to Texline and a load of similar cattle weighing 414 at $97.69 delivered to Texline.

Pearson Cattle Co., Happy, sold to a local buyer 375 No. 1 steers weighing 370 pounds at $68, also 250 No. 1 steers weighing 440 at $67 and 150 similar steers weighing 610 at $62.

Klemme Cattle Co., Springfield, Mo., sold on a delivered basis to an Iowa buyer two loads of No. 1 Okie steers weighing 729 pounds at $63.12; to a Kansas buyer one load of Holstein steers weighing 653 at $51.14; to a Texas buyer two loads of Holstein steers weighing 980 at $48.25.

JB Cattle Co., Abilene, sold on a delivered basis to Texas Panhandle and Western Oklahoma buyers one load of No. 1 Okie and crossbred steers weighing 449pounds at $99.80; one load of No. 1 Okie and crossbred heifers weighing 405 at $96.25; a load of similar heifers weighing 462 at $92.77; one load of No. 1 Okie and crossbred steers with a few bulls weighing 546 at $91.75. The firm sold to a Kansas buyer one load of Holstein steers weighing 589 at $81.25.
