The range these cattle call home lies athwart a storm track which has captured a large share of the scattered showers rumbling across the region the last couple of otherwise poor years. And much better than average management by the landowner has parlayed that spotty rainfall into a stand of forage to be envied.

Plains Fed Cattle Trade Quiet At Midweek Over Big Price Gulf
The Plains fed cattle trade was back in its familiar groove — or is that rut — at midweek following two crazy weeks. The two sides stared at one another across a wide gulf, each side waiting for the other to start building a bridge.

Nation’s Feeder Cattle Prices Move Higher Again Last Week
Another steady to $2 higher trend was registered in the nation’s feeder cattle trade last week. Volume has been adequate from one or more areas on one or more weight groups to apply the $2 upturn nationally in 10 out of the past 15 weeks.

Texas Fed Cattle Prices Higher, Most Trading Done On Wednesday
Slaughter steers and heifers sold steady to 50 higher in Texas Panhandle and Western Oklahoma feedlot trading last week. Trade was at a standstill until Wednesday, when the bulk of movement occurred.

Angelo Feeder Lambs Higher, Cattle Lower
Feeder lambs sold firm to $1 higher this week, slaughter lambs poorly tested and slaughter ewes firm to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 13,046 head, around 40 percent slaughter ewes, 20 percent feeder lambs and 40 percent goats.

U.S. Meat Production .1% Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 891.4 million pounds, .7 percent more than a week earlier and .1 percent above a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was up 2.2 percent at 29.6 billion pounds.

Lampasas Sale Calls No Trend On 1140 Head
No price comparison was cited on receipts of 1140 head. Feeder steers: medium and large No. 1 200-300 lbs. $95-110, 300-400 lbs. $101-115, 400-500 lbs. $89-98, few to $103, 500-600 lbs. $78-89, 600-700 lbs. $69-78, 700-800 lbs. $67-70.

Kansas Direct Steers Higher, Heifers Weak
Feeder steers sold steady to $1 higher in Kansas direct trade last week, heifers steady to weak. The weather was warm with highs in the low 100s and very little rain in the western side of the state. Sales were confirmed on 5826 head.

Abilene Feeder Steers Mixed, Heifers Higher
Feeder steers weighing less than 600 pounds sold $2 higher, heavier weights steady, heifers $1-3 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 lower, bulls steady, stock cows and pairs strong. Receipts totaled 1571 head.

Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 651 head.

Junction Lambs Lower, Stock Angoras Steady
Feeder lambs sold $1 lower, slaughter lambs mostly steady, slaughter ewes and bucks $1 lower; stock Angora nannies steady, slaughter nannies and muttons $2 higher, other slaughter Angoras $1-2 lower; slaughter Spanish kids $2-3 lower, other slaughter goats mostly steady, stock nannies $3 lower. Receipts totaled 7800 head.

San Saba, Brownwood, Mason Feeders Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady in Mason, Brownwood and San Saba last week, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 higher, pairs and bred stock cows steady. Receipts at the three sales totaled 1106 head.

Cuero Feeder Cattle Trade Steady To Up
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $5 higher, cutter slaughter cows 50 cents lower, fat cows 50 cents higher, bulls higher. Receipts totaled 1456 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Cattle Prices
Feeder steers sold strong, heifers steady, slaughter cows and bulls $2 higher. Receipts totaled 1515 head.

Goldthwaite Feeder Lambs Drift Lower
Feeder lambs sold $1-2 lower, slaughter lambs steady, slaughter ewes and bucks steady; slaughter Angora goats $5-7 lower; slaughter Spanish goats $2-3 lower, stock nannies $4-5 lower. Receipts totaled 6000 head.

Graham Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers sold steady to $3 higher, heifers steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-2 higher, bred stock cows and pairs $10-20 higher. Receipts totaled 1778 head.

Colorado City Feeder Steers, Heifers Mixed
Feeder steers and heifers weighing less than 500 pounds were steady, heavier weights firm to $2 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 higher, bulls $2 higher, bred stock cows firm. Receipts totaled 806 head.

Domestic Wool Slow, Foreign Wools Lower
Domestic wool trading remains at a near standstill, producers remain reluctant to accept current bids at lower than spring season prices. Most will continue to store wool for marketing later. Demand for wool remains light with warehouse to processor sales 5-10 cents lower than most recent sales, particularly on medium and coarser wools.
