The Texas Agricultural Research and Extension Center at
Vernon will host a range field day October 28 on the W.T.
Waggoner Estate.
The field day will involve a day-long tour of a 35,000
acre study area known as the Kite Camp Project. The
objective of the research is to determine how
combinations of rotational grazing and prescribed fire
can be used to manage mesquite and maintain sustainable
livestock production. Each treatment area covers about
4000 to 5000 acres. Researchers will summarize responses
over the first four years of the study in terms of
grazing management, mesquite control, forage growth,
livestock production, and economics of each management
alternative.
Those wishing to participate need to meet at the
Wilbarger Auditorium at 2100 Yamparika in Vernon between
8 and 9 a.m. Registration is free but those wishing to
attend are asked to call (940) 552-9941.
