Murray And Ohl Post Big Wins
At Recent Washington Rodeo
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Reigning world rodeo
champions Ty Murray and Cody Ohl are seeing gold.
Murray, the 1998 world all-around and bull riding
champ from Stephenville, Texas, won the saddle bronc
riding title in Ellensburg, Wash., over the weekend,
while Ohl, the reigning calf roping world champ, also of
Stephenville, won the calf roping title.
Murray, who made history last December by winning his
seventh world all-around championship, snagged checks
totaling $5977 and the saddle bronc riding title in
Ellensburg. Recently returned to full competition after
an elbow injury, Murray is ranked second in the Crown
Royal world all-around standings with $113,593, sixth in
the saddle bronc riding standings with $52,805, 25th in the bareback standings with
$30,590, and 29th in the bull
riding standings with $30,199.
At the other end of the arena, Ohl roped the calf
roping title, $2645 in calf roping and steer roping cash,
and the all-around honors. The win secured his third
place ranking in the Crown Royal world all-around
standings with $103,241.
Fred Whitfield maintains his lead in the all-around
standings with $132,842. Murray and Ohl follow in second
and third places, respectively. Trevor Brazile,
Childress, Texas, follows in fourth with $93,262, and he
is followed by Herbert Theriot, Poplarville, Miss., with
$89,485.
