Steers, Heifers Firm To $1 Up
In Angelo Special Sale Monday

SAN ANGELO — Steers and heifers were firm to $1 higher here Monday in the season's sixth special feeder sale at Producers Livestock Auction Co.

Trading was termed fairly active and demand good, the quality attractive including several bunches of fresh native cattle. Calves made up 60 percent of receipts, which totaled an estimated 2500 head compared with 3563 at the previous special sale last month and 2317 for the same day last year.

USDA reported prices this way:

Feeder steers: medium and large No. 1 few 300-400 pounds $104-108, 400-500 pounds $88-97, set $100, 500-600 pounds $79-88, 600-700 pounds $76-82, few $83-87, 700-800 pounds $71-78, set $80, 800-900 pounds $71-75; medium and large 1-2 300-400 pounds $89-97, 400-500 pounds $80-88, 500-600 pounds $71-79, 600-700 pounds $68-76, 700-800 pounds $66-71.

Feeder heifers: medium and large No. 1 few 300-400 pounds $86-88, 400-500 pounds $77-87, set $89, 500-600 pounds $71-81.50, set $82.50, few replacements $86-88.50, 600-700 pounds $71-78.50, 700-800 pounds $66.50-74; medium and large 1-2 few 300-400 pounds $76.50-86, 400-500 pounds $69.50-77, 500-700 pounds $63-71, 700-800 pounds $63-65.50.

Show winners included:

Herefords: champion steers, 10 head consigned by C.T. McClatchy, Bangs, averaging 682 pounds at $78 cwt. or $531.96 per head; reserve steers, 24 from Edward Hollard Estate, Marathon, 715 pounds $75.25 or $538.04.

Angus: champion steers, 20 from Glass Bros., Millersview, 626 pounds $82 or $513.32; reserve steers, 32 from Double Half Circle Ranch, Mertzon, 673 pounds $80 or $538.40; champion heifers, 16 from Glass Bros., 625 pounds $75 or $468.75; reserve heifers, 10 from Larry Walker, Lohn, 604 pounds $74.50 or $449.98.

Crossbreds: champion steers, 11 from Kenneth Munsell, Andrews, 792 pounds $77 or $609.84; reserve steers, 12 from North Concho Ranch, San Angelo, 778 pounds $74.75 or $581.56; champion heifers, 12 from Cheryl Clayton, Ozona, 532 pounds $77 or $409.64; reserve heifers, 20 from Kenneth Munsell, 679 pounds $524.53.
