Hopes For NFR Calf Roping Slot
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. It's not that
timed-event hand Trevor Brazile hasnt ever been to
the National Finals Rodeo.
He's just never been there before as a calf roper.
During the next six weeks, he's hoping to change that.
The three-event cowboy from Childress, Texas, is
aiming for a fourth National Finals qualification, this
time in calf roping. Brazile qualified for the 1998 NFR
in team roping, and in 1997-98 he qualified for the
National Finals Steer Roping. If he qualifies for the
1999 NFR in calf roping he's currently 13th, and
the top 15 will qualify he'll become only the 14th
cowboy ever to qualify for the NFR in three events.
Brazile helped his cause when he won $7764 and the
calf roping title at the recent Pendleton Round-Up Rodeo.
The all-around race is heating up. Fred Whitfield,
Hockley, Texas, still maintains the lead with $138,952,
but Cody Ohl, Orchard, Texas, has ousted Ty Murray,
Stephenville, from his second place position. Ohl's
winnings to date are $115,265, and Murray follows with
$114,213. Not far behind is Trevor Brazile with $101,056
and Herbert Theriot, Poplarville, Miss., with $93,480.
