Cape Mohair Sale
Sharply Higher

The South African Cape mohair sale Tuesday had sharply higher prices on most offerings. Demand was termed good and competition strong. A total of 2141 bales, or 645,000 pounds, were offered and 98 percent sold.

The Cape mohair report said fine kid hair, already at near record levels, was least affected by the price hike and sold steady to 2.5 percent higher. Strong kid and fine young goat hair was 10-15 percent higher, young goat up 5-7.5 percent.

Adult hair, which has been neglected recently, rose fully 25 percent.

The next Cape sale will October 19 with 1800 bales, or 550,000 pounds, on offer.
