CHAMPION STEERS in Monday's special feeder sale at San Angelo included the Herefords, 10 head consigned by James C. Barr Inc. Coahoma, averaging 848 pounds at $70 cwt. or $593.60 per head; the Angus, 16 from Campbell-Mayer, Sonora, 601 pounds $85 or $540.85; and the crossbreds, 40 from Cinco Cattle Co., Sterling City, 715 pounds $74 or $529.10.

Feeder Steers, Heifers Firm
In Angelo Special Sale Monday

SAN ANGELO — Steer and heifer prices were firm here Monday in the season's sixth special feeder sale at Producers Livestock Auction.

Trading was termed active and demand good, the quality attractive including several large bunches of fresh native cattle. Calves made up 70 percent of receipts, which totaled approximately 4500 head compared to 2392 at the previous special sale last month and 3722 for the same day last year.

USDA reported prices this way:

Feeder steers: medium and large No. 1 300-400 pounds $102-108, 400-500 pounds $87-97.75, 500-600 pounds $78-88, 600-700 pounds $74-82.25, set $85, 700-800 pounds $71-77.50, few $78-80, 800-900 pounds $70-77; medium and large 1-2 300-400 pounds $85-100, 400-500 pounds $80-87,

500-600 pounds $70-78, 600-700 pounds $67-74, 700-900 pounds $65-71.

Feeder heifers: medium and large No. 1 300-400 pounds $83-90, 400-500 pounds $76-85, 500-700 pounds $70.50-79.50, 700-800 pounds $68-73, set 75.25; medium and large 1-2 300-400 pounds $76-83, 400-500 pounds $65-75, 500-700 pounds $64-70.50, 700-800 pounds $64-65.50.
