Feeder Steers, Heifers Higher
In Angelo Special Sale Monday
SAN ANGELO Steers and heifers were $1-2 higher
here Monday in the season's eighth special feeder sale at
Producers Livestock Auction.
Trading was termed active and demand good, the quality
attractive, including numerous bunches of fresh native
cattle. Calves made up 70 percent of receipts, which
totaled 1919 head compared to 4047 at the previous
special sale earlier this month and 2651 for the same day
last year.
USDA reported prices this way:
Feeder steers: medium and large No. 1 300-400 pounds
$101-111, 400-500 pounds $87.50-97, few $97-100, 500-600
pounds $79-91, few $92-98.50, 600-700 pounds $75-80, few
$84.50, 700-800 pounds $73-80; medium and large 1-2
200-300 pounds $106-110, 300-400 pounds $87-100, 400-500
pounds $78-88, 500-600 pounds $70-79, 600-700 pounds
$66-75, 700-900 pounds $66-73.
Feeder heifers: medium and large No. 1 300-400 pounds
$85-95, set $97, 400-500 pounds $75-85, few $87-90,
500-600 pounds $72-82, set $84, 600-700 pounds $72-80,
700-800 pounds $66.50-75, set $77.50; medium and large
1-2 200-300 pounds $84-89, 300-400 pounds $80-85, 400-500
pounds $67-77.50, 500-700 pounds $66-72.

$84.50 cwt. or $539.96 per head; reserve steers, 10 from
Ben Gearhart, Marfa, 786 pounds $75.50 or $593.43;
champion heifers, 10 from Cerrito Prieto Ranch, Encinal,
707 pounds $77.50 or $547.93; reserve heifers, 11 from
Clay Rucker, Eden, 531 pounds $84 or $446.04.
Herefords: champion steers, 10 from Mrs. Martin Reed,
Sterling City, 540 pounds $85.50 or $461.70.
Angus: champion steers, 16 from J. Larry Walker, 585
pounds $93 or $544.05; champion heifers, 11 from Walker,
