Denny McLanahan Voted Rodeo
Fans' Favorite; NFR Next Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Texas bareback rider Denny McLanahan has been voted professional rodeo fans' favorite cowboy for the first time. He beat out 1998 favorite Stran Smith for the 1999 title. Coors annually holds the contest to recognize cowboys who have made an impact on rodeo fans. McLanahan, at 5-5 and 150 pounds, will compete in his eighth NFR in December.

The 12 PRCA circuits are wrapping up their seasons and crowning year-end and finals rodeo champs in each event. The winners qualify for the prestigious $400,000-plus Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo scheduled for March in Pocatello, Idaho.

Steer wrestler T.W. Parker of Wendell, Idaho, took the average title in his event at the Wilderness Circuit Finals Rodeo in Ogden, Utah, the first week in November. His time of 13.8 seconds on three steers won the average title by almost a full second. He won the first round in 4.3 seconds.

Other average title winners in Ogden were Jake Hayworth, St. Anthony, bareback and saddle bronc riding; Shawn Dudley, Salem, Utah, bareback riding; Brian Winn, Annabella, Utah, and Brian Roundy, Richfield, Utah, team roping; Matt Marvel, Battle Mountain, Nev., saddle bronc riding; Chet Keetch, Montpelier, Idaho, calf roping; and J.C. Sanders, South Weber, Utah, bull riding.

The Texas and California circuits will hold their finals rodeo on New Year's weekend, while the Turquoise and Montana circuits will determine their champions the weekend of Jan. 14-16.
