The U.S. rig count continued the downhill slide according to the Baker Hughes report of September 27. Losing eight rigs for the week left a total of 860 drilling rigs at work in the U.S. That is 194 fewer than one year ago. Fifty years ago, in 1969 there were approximately 1200 rotary rigs at work in the U.S. Canada gained eight to finish at 127 on the week but down 51 on the year.
