Sheep Markets Find Positivity, Move Higher

Texas markets were $5-15 higher while the market at New Holland, Pennsylvania was $4 lower. The first significant cold front moved south, dropping temperatures to near freezing with just enough moisture to make roads slick in some areas and lowered sale receipts at San Angelo on Tuesday morning.

Slaughter Meat Goat Prices Mixed In This Week’s Sales

Slaughter kids sold either side of steady this week. San Angelo kids $10-20 lower, nannies steady. Goldthwaite light kids $10 higher, slaughter kids steady to $10 higher, slaughter and replacement nannies $10 lower. Hamilton kids $10-20 higher, nannies $10-20 softer. New Holland, Pennsylvania slaughter kids $15-30 lower, slaughter nannies and billies $30-40 lower. Fredericksburg kids $5 higher.

Cattle On Feed Up Four Percent In Feedlots Of 1000 Head Plus

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1000 or more head totaled 11.7 million head on October 1, four percent above October 1, 2019. This is highest October 1 inventory since the series began in 1996. The inventory included 7.31 million steers and steer calves, up six percent from the previous year. This group accounted for 62 percent of the total inventory. Heifers and heifer calves accounted for 4.41 million head, down slightly from 2019.
